I hate baggage claim but I love to travel. I’m hustling down in Houston, Texas for a second– I’ll show you how fast I can hop up out those Gucci loafters. I needed to snatch my city back so I started with the sounds of Houston’s hottest dj: Squincy Jones…
An open-minded approach and encyclopedic knowledge of turntablism have made Jones a solid and welcomed name in the scene. The Houston Press news weekly even named Jones the “Best DJ” in 2008. Garnering respect from most coveted DJs in Texas and Stateside, he hustled to build up successful weeklies, including the Proletariat’s “Rock Box.” Dubbed by Spin magazine as “the best time you’ll have all year” in Houston, the now legendary Rock Box was like the house party your mom warned you against while she was away. Spinning off Rock Box’s shine–literally–Jones and fellow DJ partner Dayta kicked off Speakerboxx, another Thursday night of infectious, bass-heavy fun now going a year strong. Most recently, Jones rolled out “Rotate Fridays” at the ecclectic Block 21 with his DJ crewmates.
Armed with his MacBook and mixing skills to match, Squincy Jones (aka Shane Rector) is one of Houston’s best DJs keeping the syrup city on lock. A certified tastemaker, Jones fiercely dishes heaps of Dirty Third cuts, laced with his signature blend of electro, club, hip hop, pop, ’80s, house, dancehall, dubstep and whatever else the mood calls for.

I’ve never heard of “The Lot”. Seems like its one of those secret gems our city of Houston has. Guess I could come down off my high horse and mingle with the general public. Its seems like a pretty nice spot.
