Save Me & I Will Save You

May 10, 2010  |  A Big Deal

True Life: Somedays life surprises you with situations where you think you’re in the place to influence. But little do you know everything you were ready to give was given to you…

One Thursday afternoon, I was given the chance to tag along with the girls of the ME Movement. The ME facilitators were going to mentor a group of girls at the newly built Coretta Scott King Middle School. I was privy to discussions and activities that did more for me than I could have ever imagined. I listen to many and only speak to a few — the girls had me sharing insecurities. I was ready to pull out the couch and have a cocktail. My schedule allows a small amount of space for emotions. I definitely underestimated the level of maturity the young ladies possessed.

ABOUT ME MOVEMENT

The MĒ Movement is an organization that goes into schools to promote and build healthy self esteem and an overall healthy life style. We do this through the arts of spoken word, theatre, dance, painting, and music just to name a few.

The MĒ Movement’s mission is to encourage, educate, and inspire the youth through the arts while providing aspiring artists of all genres a platform for their artistic works to be seen, heard, and felt.

The MĒ Movement is fairly new but is definitely taking big strides. We have completed a workshop in February 2010 at centenniel Place Elementary with 60 children, had an intimate workshop April 2010 with 10 lovely girls attending Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy, and May 2010 put on a panel discussion entitled Realizing the Vision: Passing the Baton with celebrity panelist jasmine Guy, Lamman Rucker, Nicoye Banks, Alpha Tyler, and Juanita Jennings.
