“Work the ‘metaphor’: Every object has the capacity to stand for something other than what is apparent. Work on what it stands for.”
*quote above from Life Style–An Incomplete Manifesto for Growth by Bruce Mau
Written in 1998, The Incomplete Manifesto is an articulation of statements exemplifying Bruce Mau’s beliefs, strategies and motivations. Collectively, they are how we approach every project.
This takes me be back to the start of LateBoots. Its hard to describe what we have going on here. All the photos don’t have complete stories. Our titles aren’t to the point. You can’t take our life and factor it out like an equation. There is no balance because we have the ability to do it all–work the metaphor. Every photo, title, event, party and post has the capacity to stand for something bigger than life–bigger than me. I say bigger than me meaning us because we reach the masses–the real workers.
Never feel like you have to explain your creativity to anyone. Let them figure out the metaphor as long as you know what it means for you.

Wonderful, I’m proud and reading will mature the mind as well as the experience of this life
that last statement is a true definition of art itself. i love it!
I’m not sure i completely agree with the last statement. I think art is so esoteric and fundamentally subjective that without an explanation or definition at least, it can be totally misinterpreted. I believe art should never be justified, but an explanation is just a invitation for the world to understand your thoughts and feeling as an artist.
Apologies for the rant. 8-D
Sham this post is amazing. I fully appreciate the strength of your words. Thank you.
the visuals sell the post for me.
Those last two photos reminded me of NY, just the whole essence of the city. I think i might make a trip up there soon.
To the last statement below ferry pic:
This is how I feel. You put it very conservatively. Thank you!
