Beat yo feet — queen! OR maybe just beat your feet, I don’t know I am new to the whole GoGo culture. Bare with me. But please share with me, because I love some of this syncopated, heavy percussion band centered music. What beats live music?
Native to the DMV area, and rarely heard (and sometimes rarely understood) outside of the DMV, GoGo music is a popular brand of music for locals. According to Wiki, GoGo music has been around for a minute — since the 70′s to be exact which means technically I may be a little late, boots. Either way my friend Tyler put me on some GoGo by introducing me to a version of the hit “Poker Face” and I fell in love. You guys know how much I love some new music (food for the soul) and to be honest all my DC friends are getting looked at sideways right about now — why am I just now being exposed to this?

I don’t know why (late) but, I like Go-Go music. I used to live in DMV (VA), I was exposed to it living there. They always do covers of the latest songs – not too familiar with the one mentioned above though.
Well Sham it is really deep and it is something I think every one should be exposed to!!! I am a DMV’er and I dont know a one of us that can explain it! When you are ready to hit the DMV let Marquis know and I will surely fly home to be ur personal tour guide!
Whoa whoa, let me find out LB is on GOGO music!
But gogo music form the 70s is a different wave of GOGO today. I am a DC native I am not a huge gogo fan because it is confined to just the DMV. none of the bands aspire to take it National, or even International! But beating your feet is the signature dance of GOGO. get a band to drop a sick bounce-beat, and everybody think they are Beat-Ya-Feat Kings!!
Check out the Beat-Ya-Feat Kings on ABDC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaLEn8Mt84I
Sir James,I would rather you do some research. GoGo Music travels and has done so for many years. There is a GoGo music scene in Japan and China. As far as the sound, if it werent for GoGo there would be no Salt N Pepa, Amerie, Crazy In Love. Bands tour the South and SouthEast. Like I said to Sham it is very Deep and I dont know one person tha can explain it all. It is an underground music that is very hard to capture the energy on record. But it sells!!! Just ask Rich Harrison!
Im from DC born and raised so I know how it feels to be looked down at esp when it comes to Gogo…Wale made a outlet to it last year world wide with ‘Pretty Girls’ bc intially that song came from Backyard Bank called “Pretty Girls” but its been out since the late 70′s! Im happy to see you post this! I love New Impressions band as well, my friend is in the band, so if you want more Gogo, please email me!
