Dirt On Your Crown

August 25, 2010  |  Street Style

Mouth piece in. Gloves laced. My flight corner is first class. Shorts black. Feet like Ali. Speed like Judah. Right like Tyson. #readyforwar…–@coltranecurtis

New York City: The view from Phifer’s apartment

The fight is the ultimate star. You got Phifer a lil too prissy; had me pent up in the Financial District counting my finances; I even smiled a few times. Had me suited up in 4 different cities like I was on tour–next venue, ATL. To: get back up in these streets…I won New York and when I see Atlanta I’ma black bag dat b*tch. Man walk with me cause I’m into long walks and reading newspapers now–gotta keep it movin. Last week I wrapped up a meeting with MTV–week before that was BET–there is nothing you can’t do when you fight for it–I guess the red represents the blood, sweat and tears. This battle is MINE MINE MINE. IT’S ALL MINE. So omit my presence at any event cause I’m busy in training. “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

I used to love this brand. Honestly it’s becoming really egotistical and self consuming. You need that breath of fresh air and style AKA Sham. save yourselves Please. Trust hating is the last thing I’m attempting just trying to remain a fan

    NOT HATING JUST SAYIN

I agree with the comment above, honestly. I loved lateboots since day 1, but now, it’s sort of gloating and boasting, as oppose to informing and inspiring. COME ON !

To the 2 comments above–I guess at some point in ones career everything can be looked at as bragging if you’re improving.

It takes a lot to look at LateBoots present and say “oh here are too young self-made kids”…looks inspiring to me

Oh and Marquis the hat is dope…LOL at the shot at Sham’s style–you’re joking right? She’s fly chill

I also agree with the first two comments. I’ve been with late boots since the early days so there’s no hate being thrown. I just feel like ego’s are getting out of check just a tad bit. A dash of modesty is never a bad thing.

I absolutely love this blog and have since day one. So excited to see young people like me climbing the ladder towards what it is that they see for themselves. BUT I have noticed my steady downfall of appreciation because the inspirational voice seems to be gone and an air of gloat and seems to be creeping in. It just doesn’t seem that natural and I think you want to stand for something better.

I beg to differ. The quote at the end sums it quite nicely. Real champions are only concerned with their plight and in the end their struggle inspires the public. The brand is inspirational. They have worked hard and this post inspired me to work harder. At least they are not talking about “foolywang” and calling women “home-wreckers”.

At the end of the day, the site is still looked at, the two are still moving. If you don’t like something you quit it, has Lateboots become an addiction? Who needs a patch? If not, shut up and close the door. They are doing things a lot of young black people are attempting to do, honestly if your tired of egos start your own “inspirational” blog, what are you looking to be inspired for? Just get on your shit. Typical negroes.

The fact that one considers lateboots as a “gloating” blog only means that this blog is doing big things for them and whatever hustle they are doing is only working out for them. What was considered being modest in the early days is only more common to their lives now cause they doing it big. “No one on the corner got swagga like us”

Come one… Ok if you guy have been reading Latebootz from the start, you know it’s brag, Kanye, brag, Rihanna, brag, Dee and Ricky, brag, more Kanye, look at how cute my friends are, Amber Rose… etc. It’s plastic and entertaining. Sham is definitely the one who brings the lines to make your head go DING! But if you are trying to find “enlightenment” reading LateBoots, the fault is yours. This blog is what it is. I love it, I hate it, I READ IT! The choice is mine. All the personal attacks at Marquis are so jejune. The guy has talent.

LateBootz take this with a grain of salt and season your stew. Maybe it’s a lil heavy on the pomp, but it’s still good.

    MIKEY said it BEST.

People want inspiration–umm that’s your parents job not Marquis’s or Sham’s.

You expect them to be the same since 07′?

Who doesn’t grow in 3 years? (You don’t).

Don’t fault them for doing what you wanna do. And being what you wanna be. The kid simply gave a recap of his summer and you call it bragging?–because yall ain’t doing shit!

I bet if he gave you sob stories he’d be your favorite. HAHHAHA. Not happening.

    Rock the fuck on Phifer!

That is what I love most about lateboots.com They blogging has its on sytle and flow..and YES it’s consistent. THATS HOW YOU BECOME A BRAND. You repeat something great so people will never forget you for that. If I was to start a blog and write how Sham and Marquis YOU WOULD instantly know it and say that I was a copy. JOB well done lateboots.com YOU ARE A BRAND.

Two the “FIRST TWO COMMENTS”.Its not easy be crative, black, young, intelligent, and successful anywhere in america. Period. The info we all need now is EXAMPLES: Stories of our favorite innovators, envelope pushers, dreamers, and young heros. Nothing you know means anything without inspiration. I know pizza shop managers w/ accountant masters. They have no drive, thus their final destination. Keep being what you R LB. If Sham & Phife address the comments i will be a little heartbroken.

out of all of the comments made, i beg to differ. the opinions being made were my first impression far as the “gloating” and whatnot i agree. however, there are also times where you see a growth within the character of the two people. they are striving for success and are making it happen. doesn’t anyone wanna feel the same way? I think if anyone see the last statement he made on this post would really try to reconsider it to be as “gloating” or “bragging”.

LB was inspiring for like 2.5 seconds, put me on to a few new things, But then the word ‘Hubris’ became tone, so I bounced. First time reading in months. But bashing isn’t necessary…its the reason I don’t really go to church: If someone says something you don’t agree with, Why sit in their pew?

AHHDUUUKKKKEEENNNN!!! I’m sorry, I absolutely had to do it. The hat is giving me M. Bison teas…though I do love it. But on the flip side…who doesn’t love to hate the subtle smug arrogance the site sometimes offers? It’s entertaining, but at the same token, they can afford to do it. Sham and Marquis have attacked any major opportunity offered to them. Nothing’s handed to you on a silver platter. LateBoots, I salute thee. So boast a little, even if it means ruffling a few feathers. Unfortunately, it seems the feathers that’re being ruffled belong to pigeons. And they just grimey.
