Visual art to make you groove on this beautiful afternoon. Or not so beautiful depending on your location. What you’re watching below is a live remix/cover of Lana Del Rey’s Video Games by MeLo-X — a sonic creator. Incorporating kaleidoscopic influences from Eminem to Nirvana, from Picasso to Moses, from the sweet scent of Jamaican mango trees to the pungent stenches of dark New York City corners – this Brooklyn native fuses together vibrations of soul, electronic hip hop, old school reggae and new school basement party. MeLo-X will be releasing his first full length instrumental album titled “Fewture” on 1/31/12. Pre-orders available at http://meloxtra.bandcamp.com

New York singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, songs of dark troubled love affairs, took the cake for 2011′s Rising Star. Her single Video Games played at Christopher Kane and Emilio de la Morena‘s Spring/Summer 2012 shows. Del Rey has also recently signed with Next Model Management under their talent division with likes of Alexa Chung, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding. I’d say that’s a proper initiation into the fashion scene. “I’m making big decisions. I have integrity with my music,” Del Rey tells Elle UK. The latest Lana Del Rey track is titled Off to the Races which debuted an official video made with random found footage by Del Rey herself.

A film by Harrison Boyce and Nathan Brown of Boyce & Brown, London performing Marvin Gaye’s “Purple Snowflakes” for New York Times Magazine. “Picking a holiday song is harder than people think,” explains the Trinidad-born, Brooklyn-based rapper Theophilus London. “If you’re not going to write your own modern classic like George Michael or Run DMC, you have to cover something a lot of people don’t know.” The original is really stripped down and trippy,” says London, “so it inspired me to make my own weird version.” Pictured (from left): Elijah Austin, Omar Grant, Theophilus London, Aja Grant. –>Inside Story

Lana Del Rey – a polaroid dream of a voice, wider the ocean and an appearance, brighter the sun. a dream that hopefully never ends. Her voice – a fairy tale, dipped in the colors of a 60s hollywood movie. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter from New York is currently on tour overseas promoting her debut EP titled ‘Born To Die‘ — expected release early 2012. Del Rey took to the set of German TV show Inas Nacht to perform ‘Video Games.’

There’s something about A$AP, the rage of the youth. Even my nine year old brother understands you only live once, that’s the motto. Harlem’s “pretty muthafucka” A$AP Rocky, currently on Drake’s Club Paradise Tour along with Kendrick Lamar and Chase N. Cashe. Now that the 3 million dollar deal is in the wind, the crew went over to Funtopia in Queens to shoot it out in a Laser Tag session and had a cipher afterwards. I love a good freestyle, I’ll even take rhyming pre-written lines over a track. The melody was smooth and Rick Owens apparel in the scene. Consider for a moment they’re from 116th and Morningside and build from there. The juxtaposition brings interest. You should take a listen. Inside story for A$AP Mob Freestyle video. –>Inside Story

Singer-songwriter Ronnie “Ro” James releases the official music video for his Radiohead cover of “Creep”. The clip was directed by Antonie M. Gamboa and produced by Cass Maya. When asked what separates him from the next talented male vocalist, “They don’t feel like I feel when I perform. I feel that it is my duty to reacquaint the world with music and what its mission is. Music is made to teach, to heal and to provide hope. Music is not a gimmick and it is not a trend. Neither am I. I don’t think that there are many others that can truly say the same and live by that philosophy.” What you think of this soulful rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep?” For more info on Ro James visit: http://www.rojames.com/

How could something so gangster be so pretty in picture? Mick Jagger in the mouth with Monroe’s demeanor. She calls herself “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” and defines her music as “Hollywood pop/sad core”. New York singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, songs of dark troubled love affairs have seen many rotations through the eyes of my iPod. The self-directed music videos for “Blue Jeans” and “Video Games” are a narrative collage of found footage from cartoons and skateboarders to old movie clips and webcam confessionals of Del Rey. “The footage I use is always carefully picked but selected solely because I think the people in the shots embody the same mood I would try to capture if I was directing the video,” says Rey. After a listen, I’m set to retreat further northeast Georgia to a town called Helen just to list Lana. Her full-lenght LP due out early next year will set the mood for fireplace crackling and a house built of wooden logs in a remote area. This is my idea of fun. –>Inside Story
I took a rain check to the recent trend of electronic texture and high pitched vocals. Thursday missed my iPod by a hair–So close but so far. A product isn’t for everyone, it’s for someone. And with the release of Active Child’s debut LP, You Are All I See, we’re now on one accord — I went fishing and found one for me. Pat Grossi; The Los Angeles-based artist recording under Active Child, began his music career as a member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir. Grossi has my vote, but once this craze for indie R&B rock reaches Hollywood it’s gone. Standout Tracks: “Playing House Ft. How To Dress Well” and “Hangin On” inside the story.
