Press Play: A Word From Karl Lagerfeld

April 23, 2013  |  By Appointment Only, Creative Experience, Editor's Picks, Individual Spotlight, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Made Men, Registration, The Influentials, Towering Intellectual Class

Nowness captures Malcolm Venville’s crusade to pose a single Question to the illustrious designer (Karl Lagerfeld) at His Alpine Exhibition.

“There aren’t many people who you’d endure several flights, two long train journeys, exceedingly early wake-up calls and a soggy McDonald’s hamburger dinner to spend one minute with—but that’s how powerful the pull of fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld can be. And that pilgrimage is exactly what director Malcolm Venville undertook for a brief encounter with the Chanel and Fendi designer, artist, photographer and one-man cultural phenomenon in St. Moritz in February, where the polymath was revealing an exhibition at Galerie Gmurzynska.” More via Nowness

January 7, 2013  |  Editor's Picks, Individual Spotlight, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Playlist, Registration

Video: Real Housewives of Miami Season 1: Elsa

“Mama Elsa” Patton is a superhero (just think of the craziness draped in fur and subtitles). I ONLY watch Real Housewives of Miami for Elsa. And she entertains every time she crosses that screen. Above is one of my favorite clips. And please don’t be afraid of the mug, us fans know that despite some unfortunate plastic surgery, Mama Elsa tells it like it is. Boss.

Throwback Thursday: Document Your America, NY (Unleashed)

November 29, 2012  |  Creative Experience, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, The Traveling Sky Club

Don’t be scared to run this–run this–run this back. Hello World! I trust that all is well. Yes, I am doing well–I’ve been plotting and planning new summer business, alot of meetings no offers yet (a Jay-Z verse, it just sounded good to use). Please take a gander back to your calender of March; I made a Reprise to New York during my Spring Break. After seven days of working (oppose to laying by the sunset) I had massive amounts of photos that I wanted to post, but they didn’t make the cut. Unleash the unreleased–I heard from a bird that you sleep when you die, so I turned into a Dove–watch me Fly. My whole mental; ain’t shit to lose. LateBoots Nation; lite like some roman candles. Boy this blog is crazy! Coltrane Curtis on my right, Team Epiphany on my left; I’m safe. Now let’s get back to bizness.

Compiled & Catalogued Music: The Re-Up QUEEN Album (Download)

November 14, 2012  |  Complied and Catalogued Music, Editor's Picks, Invested Listener, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Musicology, Playlist

The Re-Up QUEEN Album: The grandeur euro-rap bravdo (having transitioned into a more self-mythologizing sound, Marquis Phifér has gotten conceptual on you all). Presenting you with a musical storybook series of the most extravagant embossed and electrifying beats. The QUEEN Album is the prima donna, the diva of divas: an album with a 55 song setlist of the funkiest songs, the flashiest Bob Fosse-meets-hip-hop dance moves and, the Longest Album of All Time. Download The QUEEN Album.

A re-up download for those who never heard the QUEEN; 55 songs that will change your life! Phifér is such a force of nature that it’s easy to overlook his musical trump card: He’s a bit of a weirdo. His weirdness is musical – it’s in the idiosyncratic way he syncopates beats, the odd melodies that floats over rugged beats, his sui generis mix of rap bravado, sanctimony and old-fashioned showbiz razzle-dazzle–the vicarious experience of opulence. Ambitious, and sonically bold.

QUEEN might be his strangest album. It’s a big-budget megapop album with over three and a half hours of music, and an A list of guest stars (Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Beyonce).  Download The QUEEN Album.

October 20, 2012  |  Creative Experience, Editor's Picks, Individual Spotlight, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Team Epiphany

So, you remember my trip to Philly last week yes? Good, because I was snatched. For the final stop on the 2012 Heineken Red Star Access (6-city) tour, Wale, Nas and Q-Tip joined forces in Philadelphia. Concertgoers lined up outside of the famed Electric Factory, hours in advance to catch the concert. Q-Tip entertained the crowd with a DJ set alongside comedian Affion Crockett. Fans were surprised when the rapper Wale invited Philly hip-hop artist Freeway on stage for a performance of his 2002 hit, “What We Do.” And because you and I are friends, here is the video of all the fun.

Oprah Winfrey for The November Issue Of Harpers Bazaar

October 14, 2012  |  A Big Deal, Editor's Picks, Individual Spotlight, Kodak Moment, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, The Influentials

Oprah is featured in the November Issue of Harpers Bazaar, on newsstands October 23. Photographs by Terry Richardson.

On her decision to start OWN:

“This is the deal, when you have reached the peak of the mountaintop, which is where I was with the Oprah show, you have absolutely no worries. I’d been in the right space at the right time, and I’d done that the best way possible for 25 years. But you have two choices: you can come down from the mountain and spend the rest of your days thinking it was so beautiful there or you can create a vision, look upward, see the next mountain, and start the climb all over” via HB

October 1, 2012  |  After Hour Spots, Editor's Picks, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Towering Intellectual Class, Where Are The Clothes

The Phifer landed in Brooklyn. It’s true! Last week I attended the Heineken x James Bond event donning my usual uniform: all black. The event celebrated Heineken’s 15-year partnership with James Bond at the MTA Museum where they transformed the venue into a James Bond film. Flawless. I’m sending you over to my boy Marcus Troy’s spot for the pictorials in detail! I ran into him and William Yan. Perfect times.
