LB Showroom Flr: Michael Bastian Spring Summer 2013 Fashion Show

November 28, 2012  |  Editor's Picks, New Product Report, New York Fashion Week, Towering Intellectual Class, Where Are The Clothes

Michael Bastian | Spring Summer 2013 by Michael Bastian

It’s boogie nights this season at Michael Bastian, as the designer’s American alpha males are walking with some extra swagger in their step. It’s all thanks to a louche collection of menswear that’s equal parts sporty and relaxed, but always effortlessly cool. Bastian’s signature, classic menswear pieces made fresh, still anchors the lineup, seen in versatile sport coats and clever cut-off shorts, but the designer experiments even more in this outing, like crafting a deep V-neck sweater front in the style of a kimono robe. Never one to shy away from color, this season Bastian softened his hues, opting for a dusty palette that sees neutral grays and tans paired with pistachio and lilac. It’s a collection made for the type guy who owns any room he walks into—and, more importantly knows it. Via GQ

Phifer & Co. Dinning With Dee & Ricky (A Brooklyn Tale)

November 23, 2012  |  After Hour Spots, Chef's Table, Editor's Picks, Foodie, Individual Spotlight, Where Are The Clothes

I keep champagne in my cup. And an influential friends list (no request). You keep forgetting I’m from Houston? Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. And yes, my friends have their own resturant. Properly named at that too. I had dinner with the effervescent Dee & Ricky re: talking business (let that man get cash). Go with the flow.

Compiled & Catalogued Music: The Re-Up QUEEN Album (Download)

November 14, 2012  |  Complied and Catalogued Music, Editor's Picks, Invested Listener, Leadership & Heroic Flutes, Musicology, Playlist

The Re-Up QUEEN Album: The grandeur euro-rap bravdo (having transitioned into a more self-mythologizing sound, Marquis Phifér has gotten conceptual on you all). Presenting you with a musical storybook series of the most extravagant embossed and electrifying beats. The QUEEN Album is the prima donna, the diva of divas: an album with a 55 song setlist of the funkiest songs, the flashiest Bob Fosse-meets-hip-hop dance moves and, the Longest Album of All Time. Download The QUEEN Album.

A re-up download for those who never heard the QUEEN; 55 songs that will change your life! Phifér is such a force of nature that it’s easy to overlook his musical trump card: He’s a bit of a weirdo. His weirdness is musical – it’s in the idiosyncratic way he syncopates beats, the odd melodies that floats over rugged beats, his sui generis mix of rap bravado, sanctimony and old-fashioned showbiz razzle-dazzle–the vicarious experience of opulence. Ambitious, and sonically bold.

QUEEN might be his strangest album. It’s a big-budget megapop album with over three and a half hours of music, and an A list of guest stars (Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Beyonce).  Download The QUEEN Album.
