We may be from small towns, but we’re pretty sure we can get down with the best of ATL. And we did just that, at the Atlanta launch dinner on Tuesday night for Kanon Organic Vodka. At one of the famed cocktail-pairing dinners–a different cocktail for each course–Kanon had Mixologist Eric Simpkins, of The Lawrence making sure that the Kanon cocktails were on point, and the phenomenal Chef Shane Devereux, also of The Lawrence, making sure that guests were fed a meal worthy of royalty (those are our roots, after all.) Any Kanon launch party isn’t complete without some special details. And since they’re not into doing things halfway, they made sure that the entire thing was sustainable too. The menus were printed on wildflower seed paper that guests, including Marquis Phifer and Sham Shirley of LateBoots, could take home and plant for actual flowers. Very cool.
+ They enlisted our new friend, Atlanta-based artist Jarno Kettunen to make sure the table was covered in style. And, since we’re all for spreading the love, at the end of the meal they had all of the guests tear off the parts of the illustrations that they liked best, to take home and frame. And lastly, if you know anything about cocktails, you should know that they’ve never met an herb they didn’t like. So Kanon gifted each of the guests with a dill plant potted in a vintage bell jar. All in all, it was an awesome foray into the Atlanta scene. Click through to see ATL’s finest enjoying their first tastes of a party the Kanon way… –>Inside Story
“Oh! Tell me where in the world is…Carmen Sham-diego?” I got my hair up real big beauty queen style in the middle of a serene landscape. This is the kind of stuff I’ve been into lately during my leisure time. A visual feast for the soul; The displays created by Mother Nature herself never fails to inspire. Driving 20 minutes up a mountain around dangerous roads may not be your ideal afternoon, but traveling far or near strikes adventure and new memories with the intriguing people you meet along the way. A waterfall awaits you inside! The 60-foot high fall widens as it cascades into 3-5 foots increments to a wide pool at it’s base. Enjoy.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch: Spotted Sham Shirley as she ventures outdoors to capture acres of gardens, a petting zoo, and wildlife in western-inspired style.
The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure while always arriving. While capitalizing on the happiness advantage, I took a gander across 70 acres of grand gardens and oak trees on a sunny afternoon with my good friend Lindsay. We’d just been laughing about a day stuck on a boat or to step outside and simply look around. Below is where our adventure began. I have the key to your secret garden — Let the little things that would bore you thrill you. Colorful visions are an exciting part of life. Tell the operator you’re ready for the greener side, she’ll tell you where to go. If not, come find me kiss-kiss

THIS IS DOM KENNEDY TOUR: Last night, the “This is Dom Kennedy Tour” stopped in Atlanta for a packed out show presented by Atlantic Division Entertainment and Honor Roll Clothing. Dom Kennedy rocked the crowd performing some of his classic hits and some new songs off his upcoming Yellow Album.
On March 25th The Loft hosted a concert for American rapper Dom Kennedy for his upcoming “Yellow Album” release. And your Atlanta Ambassador was invited to attend (R.S.V.P. yes to a concert on a school night, I want the driver to drop me off at 9:30 and pick me up at 9:45 sharp). We were live at the concert in full effect like wow! Dom Kennedy graced the stage with a bottle of Hennessy! The Henney bottle!! Yes, Dom. (I really like this Dom Kennedy. His people needs to get in contact with my people so we can do things)! Phifer was with the civilians watching Dom perform, well kind of. By all means move at a glacial pace the video awaits you! –>Inside Story
New York Photographer Sarah McColgan and Makeup Artist Victor Henao pair up for a vibrant stop motion film that examines the limits of traditional beauty photography. This piece comes as part of an on going personal project in which the duo continually explore the idea of using human faces in place of the traditional artist canvas. For this project, McColgan captured approximately 1400 still photos over the course of an 8 hour period, while Henao assembled a meticulous visual narrative, layer by layer, using only makeup as his medium. –>Inside Story
Take it from the top. This is a view. Anyone with eyes knows. I never thought I’d take interest to the ‘post card from California water front’ look. For some, the city lights inspire but the ocean glow makes all the superficial things sparkle more. While on the pursuit, you can’t forget to stretch your wings on new turf. Now I’m selling seashells by the sea shore until it’s time to tap dance on the concrete jungle. You must walk into the belly of the beast. I’d say the Atlantic Ocean is a wild one and you can see in my eyes I don’t regret it. For me, the choice was obvious. Control and balance make it a beautiful experience.
TYBEE ISLAND: Phifer and designer Brandon Murphy were spotted on Tybee Island, an easily accessible barrier island located just 18 miles away from the Hostess City of the South, historic Savannah, Georgia. Tybee Island is also famous for its diverse cuisine, excellent accommodations, and even Paula Deen has her very own vacation house on Tybee Island available for rental.
Another photo courtesy of my printed blouse on the beach as I woke up at the vacation home. Meet my other-other friends. Hanging out at Tybee Island we found ourself luxuriating in southern comforts. Rock House Tybee is the new island home for all folks who believe parties are always better at the beach! This original bar and grill is ready to rock Savannah! The Rock House is the new entertainment epicenter of south beach Tybee! Chef Christopher Miller’s bodacious bar menu features right-off-the boat shrimp served a whole slew of different ways, and his signature Big Fat Freakin’ Burritos, authentic baja-style fish tacos and rock-your-world chili colorado. And then there’s the music! Most nights of the week there is live entertainment at the Rock House. But does eating fried pickles humanize me? The best!

How astonishing it is that not all those who wander are lost? It’s a grand feeling when things are spontaneous yet the ultimate in quality. As long as the still pictures can move you after the experience is why we meet here, No? It’s a small price to pay for a little peace and takes an enormous amount of control not to boast — Just to leave enough to surprise you. Up next in 48 hours or less, a panoramic view in color to stimulate then activate the left and right brain. An all-purpose pictorial journal full of play after the work. Picture this — I, Sham Shirley, in clay leather status frames ocean front. cc: Grey Ant

D-WHY on the making the video for “Macchiato Music”…”Shortly after recording this song, we came up with the idea to travel to Europe to shoot videos for it and three other unreleased songs off of my upcoming mixtape, Don’t Flatter Yourself. Savings accounts were emptied, frequent flier miles were used up and nine days were spent adventuring throughout four countries. We slept on floors, got cursed at in foreign languages by hotel maids, spent the night in airports, dealt with border security, and of course, got crazy looks while shooting all of the videos completely guerilla-style with no permits or licenses.” Well, there you have it. What more can I say?
Enjoy,
Sham Shirley
