I’ve been following Ryan Leslie since his Cassie days and Fonzworth Bentley since his infamous cameo on MTV’s Making The Band—Dylan Dylan Dylan!–favorite group thus far! Both gentlemen exude organic style and I’ll give you a little background on my run ends–hold the commas.
I first worked with Ryan Leslie for a photoshoot during one of my concrete jungle summers, I was in the mix of the New York fashion industry so nothing was off limits. Once they told me who I’d be styling I went home and pulled out my best garments, I said to myself once Ryan Leslie see’s me he’ll induct me into his camp and here comes the light–satisfaction-Hollywood. The shoot was amazing but I had negative none face time with Leslie. A year or later I run into Ryan at the Soul Train Awards in Atlanta and he stops, goes out of his way to come and speak to me. The rest is history. But speaking on Ryan’s style, the best way to obtain his look is to head to Zara, he’s known for his simple white tee’s, a lil neck jewelry and a nice leather or dinner jacket. Very downtown meets uptown. The insight that this gentleman has is documentary worthy.
Now let’s talk Morehouse brother! I meet Fonzworth Bentley through Coltrane Curtis–you know us House brothers gotta stay together. Bentley is somewhat of an advisor, I’ll hit him up sporadically whenever I need advice or a kick in the…he keeps me grounded consistently reminding me to stay focus—and in school. “I expect big things from you“-His words, or it was something like that lol. But BC (before connections) I’ve always always always loved Fonzworth’s style, it’s like he inaugurated the dandy gentrification into the hip-hop industry. The rest is history. Bentley’s insight on style–let’s just say even I’m taking notes.
